One of the top 10 rivalries in the nation. THE rivalry in the state of New Mexico. These 2 teams meet up in early November every year. Just to put it in prospective, this game is so big it can’t be played at the regular High School football stadium, Filed of Dreams. So what do they do? They play it at our College football stadium; Aggie Memorial Stadium. This game draws about 22,000-26,000 people each year, with the record being just over 30,000 in 2002 when the two played for the state title.
Which brings me to this: Mayfield beat Cruces 28-20 in an upset back on November 9th. Both made the playoffs, and both won their games to make it to the big stage. Now, this Saturday December 7th, they meet in a rematch of not only Novembers game, but also a rematch of the state title game in 2002, which will have been played exactly 11 years ago on December 7th.
New Mexico, this is your chance to witness history. Be part of something special. More than 30,000 people expected at this game.
