Stephan Bonnar Test Positive for Banned Substance. (My thoughts on what i know so far)
Stephan Bonnar has tested positive for Drostanolone, an anabolic steroid. The UFC confirmed it with MMAJunkie.com. The test is from Bonnar’s last fight at UFC 153, against Anderson Silva.
This isn’t the first time Bonnar has tested positive for a banned substance. After his Unanimous Decision loss to Forrest Griffin in 2006, Bonnar tested positive for boldenone; another type of anabolic steroid. After that came out, he said he only used it to speed up his recovery from a nagging elbow injury.
Now, before everyone goes up in arms about this test, there’s something you must know, Drostanolone, the steroid Bonnar tested positive for, inhibits water retention. It’s mostly used for weight cutting, not strength gains. So, does that legitimize his use of it? He WAS cutting a ton of weight since the fight was on short notice, and he is no small 205 pounder.
In MY opinion, i think it is a legit use. Is it right, no.
I want to know what you guys think, Was it a legitimate use for him? How will this affect his legacy (if at all)?
